Layout - the font used is simple yet effective. It gives a casual look to the magazine. There are three cover lines in the cover page but they stand out well due to the use of an effective colour scheme. The red lettering is more easily identifiable against the white background
Genre - the genre is rock and it is most represented by the Metallica who appear on the front of the magazine as Metallica are famous in the rock genre.

- Q has kept its traditional house style of red and white in this contents page.
- It has a simple and clear title which again shows the simplicity of this magazine
- The features are laid out clearly on the left and separated with a red line. The colour scheme is being used here to which gives a original look for Q
- Images are layered over each other which would make the reader want to read what is on top
- The size of the pagination varies to the size of the picture
Double page spread
- Q again shows that the house style of the magazine is being followed as the colours that are used in this page are red , white and black with an exception to the colour of the images
- This simplistic and professional look may appeal to the more older readers
- On the first page , there is an image with a pull quote. this separates the text well.
- The pull quote is in bold and red so it stands out more and can catch the readers eye
- The photo taken is a med shot from the waist upwards. The artist is holding what seems to be alcoholic beverages which may show some sort of irony/contradiction to the subheading " in good health"
- The first letter of the second page has been enormously enlarged to grab the readers attention to the read the text.

- NME uses a lot of text on the front page. This can help by showing people that the magazine contains a lot of information and is a good value for money.
- The use of font size and colour create a very bold looking magazined that stands out well from other magazines and gives it a unique look.
- The image used is a mid-shot and is behind the text. It goes well with the house style and colour scheme of the magazine
- NME have layered there images to make more space for the cover image

- The colour scheme used is very bland as it mostly consists of black and white. it has the look of a newspaper rather than a magazine.
- The colour used in the images are synonymous with the music and fashion genre which is 'indie'.
- The contents page has minimal text which means it may be targeted at people who do not like to read much
- Most of the space on the magazine is taken up by images. This creates a more interesting and eye-catching visual for the reader
Double page spread
- The image one the first page shows Dizzee by a graffiti background looking back as if he is up to no good. this relates to the genre of hip-hop as stereotypical hip hop would be generally about mischief and trouble.
- there are empty bottles and cups on the second page of the double page spread, there is also a music box which shows that this type of genre is for people who enjoy to party
- A drops cap is used at the start of the paragraph. the front of the drop cap is the same as the rest of the font. it is black, bold and in capitals.
